Quizzes and Surveys
As the UX writer for this project, my focus was on simplifying this complex feature, ensuring users could effortlessly create the quiz or survey they needed to improve the quality of their program. This involved crafting clear and concise microcopy for both web and mobile, that guided users through each step of the creation and management process. I collaborated closely with designers and developers to streamline the user experience and ensure a smooth flow, even within existing technical limitations. A key challenge was effectively communicating the tool's versatility, empowering users to create both graded quizzes and insightful surveys. Through user research and collaboration with fellow writers, I tailored the language to resonate with diverse audiences and align with Wix's overall voice and style.
Challenges:
-
Making it clear that users could create both surveys and graded quizzes with this tool.
-
Making the flow feel smooth despite interruptions due to technical limitations.
-
Collaborating with other writers to align the content with other tools at Wix that use the same builder, while adapting the text to meet users' needs.
Responsibilities :
-
Research:
-
Competitor research to see what terms are used by similar products.
-
User research to refine the language so it resonates with diverse audiences.
-
-
Considering the copy and placement for the various entry points to the feature.
-
Crafting clear and engaging copy that guides users through creating quizzes and surveys for their online programs using the dedicated builder.
Entry points
This screen shows the entry point for adding quizzes and surveys to an online course, and it's designed to make the process a breeze. It streamlines the experience ensuring creators can quickly understand their options and easily incorporate these interactive elements. I focused on concise labeling and intuitive placement within the program creation flow to contribute to a smooth and user-friendly experience.

Bridging the flow
While the quiz creation process involves separate stages, I aimed to create a seamless user experience through clear and informative UX writing. This screen focuses on the essential setup phase, where users define the quiz's basic information. The microcopy guides users through this initial step, ensuring they have a clear understanding of the quiz's purpose and placement within their program. This sets the stage for the subsequent quiz builder phase, where users can dive into crafting questions and answer options.
Quiz builder: usability challenges
In the initial design for the question builder I detected a potential usability challenge. The extensive list of question types, categorized into four sections, risked overwhelming users and increasing their cognitive load. Furthermore, some options, like the separate 'Short answer' and 'Long answer' fields, were functionally similar and could lead to confusion. This realization prompted a collaborative effort with the design team to streamline the interface and improve the user experience.

Quiz builder: redesigned
Following a collaborative redesign, the question builder interface became significantly more user-friendly. As seen in this screenshot, the number of question types was reduced and reorganized for clarity. By consolidating similar options and removing unnecessary complexity, we created a more intuitive experience for users.

Customizing questions
This screen provides a closer look at the robust customization options available for quiz questions. My goal as a UX writer was to ensure these features were clear and easy to use. I focused on concise microcopy to guide users through each setting, from selecting correct answers to crafting feedback messages. To further enhance the experience, I advocated for pre-populated fields, like the default options in multiple-choice questions, streamlining the process and reducing manual effort for users.
Helpful tooltips
To help users choose the right question types, I added these handy tooltips. They pop up when you hover over each option and give you a quick explanation of what it's for. For example, the tooltip for 'Open-ended' explains that it's perfect for gathering opinions, while the one for 'Number' clarifies that it requires a numerical answer.

Managing quizzes on the Wix app
This screen exemplifies how clear and concise UX writing can guide users effectively, even within technical constraints. Due to limitations on mobile editing, I crafted a brief message that clearly directs users to their desktop for quiz modifications. This approach prioritizes transparency and user understanding, ensuring a smooth experience across devices.

Participant overview
This screen within the Wix app provides instructors with a detailed view of a participant's progress. As the UX writer, I focused on establishing a clear information hierarchy to ensure key details are easily accessible. By using concise labels and visual cues, such as checkmarks and crosses, I helped instructors quickly understand the participant's journey and identify areas where they might need support, such as a failed quiz.

Viewing results
This screen provides instructors with a clear and accessible overview of quiz results, optimized for mobile viewing. The UX writing prioritizes clarity and efficiency, ensuring instructors can quickly understand participant performance. Correct and incorrect answers are clearly distinguished, and the participant's score is displayed alongside the required passing grade for easy comparison. This design enables instructors to efficiently assess understanding and provide targeted feedback, directly from their mobile device.

Celebrating quiz success
This screen pops up to celebrate a participant's success after completing a quiz on the Wix mobile app. As the UX writer, I wanted to make this moment feel positive and encouraging. The message clearly announces that they passed, displays their grade, and offers a 'Share' button to spread the good news. It's a simple but effective way to acknowledge their accomplishment and motivate them to continue their learning journey.

Detailed quiz results
This screen provides a detailed breakdown of quiz results on mobile. I focused on clear presentation, with correct/incorrect answers clearly marked and the overall grade prominently displayed. To encourage further action, I crafted concise microcopy for the 'Retake' and 'Next Step' buttons, empowering participants to either try again or continue their learning journey.
