Certificates

This case study shows my UX writing process for Wix Certificates (released June 2023), a feature within the Online Programs platform. I developed concise and impactful messaging that helps users easily create and distribute professional certificates for their online courses.

My responsibility was to craft clear, concise copy that helps users understand the value and purpose of certificates within their program, while maintaining consistency with Wix's voice. This involved creating clear and concise microcopy for feature introductions, template selections, customization options, and final output reviews. This project demonstrates my ability to effectively collaborate with designers and adhere to brand guidelines while crafting impactful content.

Challenges:

Balancing instructional clarity with brevity, ensuring the interface remained intuitive and not overwhelming.
Maintaining a consistent voice across all touchpoints.
Anticipating potential user pain points (like users uploading the wrong type of image).
Ensuring the language was both informative and encouraging.

Entry point

This screen marks the user's first encounter with the Certificate feature within Wix Online Programs. My role was to introduce this functionality while highlighting its value for user engagement. The microcopy highlights the benefits of awarding certificates and provides a concise explanation of their purpose. Visual cues, such as the icon and the prominent call to action, further guide users towards creating their own certificates.

Inclusive certificate design

This screenshot shows the Wix certificate builder tool, where users can design and preview their certificates by customizing a template with pre-filled information. I developed the instructional content on the sidebar to guide users through the process of designing certificates. The example text on the certificate itself was carefully crafted to be gender-neutral, ensuring inclusivity. I wrote the inspirational description to help users envision meaningful messages they can include. My goal was to make the tool intuitive and accessible.

Instructions and tooltips

In this case, I anticipated a user pain point that would involve users uploading non-transparent images and getting poor-looking certificates. Therefore, I added the tooltip to avert this issue.

This screen highlights the importance of anticipating user needs and proactively providing helpful information. This proactive approach ensures a smooth and efficient user experience, minimizing potential frustration and encouraging successful completion of the certificate creation process.

Connected certificate

And voilà! This is where users land after crafting their certificate. The screen presents key information about the certificate in a digestible way. Users can easily preview their creation, make edits, or connect it to a program for automatic delivery. This screen ensures a sense of accomplishment and encourages users to seamlessly integrate their certificates into their online programs.

Managing certificates on mobile

This screen demonstrates how the Wix Certificates feature translates to a mobile experience within the Wix app. While users can't design certificates directly on the app, they still have access to key management functionalities. The writing enables creators to easily manage their certificates even when away from their desktops.

Manually issuing certificates on mobile

This screen showcases the granular control Wix provides to course creators. Even on mobile, users can easily monitor individual participant progress and manage certificate issuance. The UX writing maintains clarity and conciseness, ensuring that key information like program completion status is readily accessible. The interface allows for flexibility; instructors can manually issue certificates even if a participant hasn't fully completed the program, accommodating diverse learning scenarios and instructor preferences.

Earning certificates on mobile

This screen demonstrates how UX writing can be used to motivate participants within an online program viewed on mobile. In the 'Rewards' section, the message 'Complete the program to get your certificate' serves as a clear incentive for engagement and completion. By highlighting the certificate as a reward, the microcopy encourages participants to actively pursue their learning goals and strive for program completion.

Celebrating program completion on mobile

This screen pops up when a participant successfully finishes a program on the Wix mobile app. My job was to craft a message that's both celebratory and informative. It's a moment of achievement, so a big 'Congratulations!' is in order. But we also wanted to eliminate any "Where's my certificate?" panic, so the microcopy clearly states where it was emailed. Plus, there's a handy 'Share' button so participants can share their success on social media.
